NGC 1333

NGC 1333 is a reflection nebula in a complex region on the western side of the Perseus molecular cloud which can be seen extending across the frame. The region displays a rich assortment of astronomical objects and phenomena. It is a stellar nursery containing around 150 young stars most of which are hidden within the enshrouding dust. It also contains Herbig-Haro objects which are bright patches of nebulosity produced by jets from very young stars colliding with the surrounding dust and gas. A Hα emission nebula and dark lanes round out the selection. The region lies around 1,000 light years away.

The image is a total 4h50m exposure taken on November 12th, 16th and December 7th, 2023 through a 5 inch telescope from Eustis Ridge. Nebulosity and stars were processed separately before being combined into the final image.
